Teachers In Service, Inc. (TIS) is a non-profit, faith-based organization that pursues educators for children of Christian missionaries and has been doing this for 24 years.

TIS Values

  • TIS values children and advocates for excellence in the education of all children of Christian missionaries. TIS’s goal is to support missionary families in meeting the educational needs of their children.

  • · TIS believes that parents have the ultimate responsibility to ensure the educational needs of their children are met.

  • · TIS supports missionary families including their children by recruiting teachers.

  • · TIS believes that MK teachers have a direct ministry of discipling MKs

TIS recruits by:

  • TIS partners with MK schools to find educators who are dedicated Christ followers. (A list is maintained)

  • TIS partners with groups of parents to recruit quality, qualified educators for non traditional settings. (A list is maintained)

  • TIS partners with Christian sending agencies. (A list is maintained)

  • TIS maintains a website and social media to connect candidates with schools, programs, and Christian sending agencies. (Currently the TIS website does not come up on key searches)

  • TIS assists candidates with experienced, expert guidance in placement at a school, program and/or Christian sending agency.

  • TIS assists candidates by providing direction to programs that provide preparation and orientation to distinctives of educating MKs.

  • TIS assists candidates by providing viewpoints and practical skills to raise prayer and financial support for their ministry.

  • TIS maintains job descriptions for the Executive Director, other directors, and staff positions.

Board of Governance

  • Minimum of 3, ideal 5, maximum of 7

  • Understand, identify, and support the TIS mission, vision, and values

  • Set of people with complementary skills, gifts, approaches, and experience related to the responsibilities of TIS. (Body of Christ - diversity in unity)

  • Have a structure: Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer (A member can hold two jobs)

  • Work remotely, meet regularly (monthly, bimestrial - every other month)

  • Major parameters -foundational documents, doctrinal statement, guidelines, reviewing and developing policy

Next Steps:

  • Develop a revitalized Board of Directors with 5 members with complementary experience and skills.

  • Improve the TIS website and social media - update, modernize, eye-catching , motivational, informative.

  • Make the TIS website more “findable” and include more intuitive links to schools, programs, Christian sending agencies, orientations, etc.

  • Better define the TIS organizational profile including foundational documents based on biblical principles, handbook, and data lists to improve productivity.

  • Find a new Executive Director who can build upon TIS existing foundation and extend the organization's reach.

  • Transition TIS into a network advocating for teachers at mission schools, actively engaging with mobilizers and recruiters, and serving as a virtual bridge between schools and mission mobilizers.

  • Explore merging with an established mobilizing organization, allowing it to become a specialized segment within an organization like Mission Next, leveraging existing resources and expertise.
